Expectoration


Expulsion of mucus, sputum, or fluids from the respiratory tract by coughing or clearing one’s throat.

When expulsion is difficult, substances called expectorants may help to expel mucus from the lungs or throat. Aerosols with physiological saline or drugs may also be used.
