Clinical trials are research studies in which patients may volunteer to take part. MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten uses clinical trials to find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Physicians use treatment trials to learn more about how to fight cancer.
Clinical trials are part of a long, careful precess, which may take many years. First, physicians study a new treatment in the laboratory. Then, they often study the treatment in animals.
If a new treatment shows prmise, physicians the test the treatment in people. They do this in three to four steps, or phases. Your physician may offer you a clinical trial as a treatment option.
If you take part in a clinical trial, you may benefit from the best and newest treatments, you may undergo more tests than usual, so that the effects of a treatment can be monitored or any side effects detected.
Participating in aclinical trials is the best way to help develop new treatments that increase the chances of finding a cure for cancer and improve current treatments applied to other patients.
