MD Anderson Cancer Center Foundation Spain is inviting tenders for their training contracts for young researchers who wish to specialize in Clinical and Translational Oncology. “The objective is to provide candidates with multidisciplinary training, offering them the chance to participate in some of the most relevant research studies in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer”, states Dr. Juan Fernando Garcia, head of Anatomical Pathology and President of MD Anderson Foundation Spain Scientific Committee.
The candidates selected will form part of a fellowship program, an excellent complementary training opportunity. The training program includes a stay of between 9 and 12 months at MD Anderson Houston.
“Through these grants, we are seeking to attract young talent, thus encouraging highly-qualified professionals to join our staff”, says Dr. Garcia. So, candidates successfully completing the training periods will be proposed for a bridging contract of employment to join the hospital as new members of staff.

Applicants to the grant programs must hold a (Spanish MIR) specialization in Pathology, Oncology, Hematology, Surgery or Radiation Oncology. Specialty training or ‘MIR’ must have been completed after the year 2013. Furthermore, candidates must propose a training program associated with a research project related to any of the following priority areas of this invitation to tender: Molecular Translational Pathology and Cancer Therapy Research / Phase I Clinical Trials.
Researchers meeting these requirements can submit their applications no later than November 15 2015, accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, a one-page letter of motivation laying out the candidate’s professional objectives, a letter of recommendation and a formal proposal for their research project. In the case of applicants requiring a USMLE Certificate for their stay in Houston, they must also submit a copy of the relevant certificate.
The candidate evaluation committee will also consider other merits, such as papers published as main author and abstracts, communications or presentations at congresses, forums and international meetings, and also the securing of other grants and scholarships and the relevance of these.
Evaluation of candidacies presented
The evaluation committee, made up of specialists from MD Anderson Houston and MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten, will study each proposal. On completion of the deliberations, the center will announce the bases of the fellowship project to be carried out. To reach their decision, they will take into account the applicant’s academic and professional background, the objectives laid out and the characteristics of the research project proposed.
A committee comprising the director of investigation and the Managing Director of MD Anderson Foundation Spain, three members of the scientific committee at MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten and a member of MD Anderson Houston Advisory Board will evaluate all applications.
