Aware of the importance of offering patients the best care, diagnosis and treatment possible, MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten starts the year with three new prestigious additions in the areas of breast and digestive oncology. Dr. Laura Garcia Estevez and Dr. Maria Isabel Calvo, specialists in breast cancer, and Dr. Jose Maria Vieitez, specialist in gastrointestinal tumors, have just joined the staff at the center. Both Dr. Garcia Estevez y Calvo and Dr. Vieitez have extensive, professional experience in their areas of expertise, as well as important publications in leading scientific journals.
On the one hand, Dr. Garcia Estevez, until now the director of the Breast Unit of the Clara Campal Cancer Center (HM Sanchinarro), will become the new head of the Breast Tumors Section, within the Medical Oncology Service of MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten. For her part, Dr. Calvo, a specialist in breast medical oncology and a member of Dr. Garcia Estevez’s at the CIOCC, will also join her in this new professional stage at MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten.
On the other hand, Dr. Jose Maria Vieitez worked for more than 15 years at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA), where he had held the position of section chief of the Gastrointestinal and Neuroendocrine Tumors Area since 2012. Dr. Vieitez leaves the center to be incorporated as head of the Digestive Tumors Section, also located within the Medical Oncology Service at MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten. Also of interest is his pedagogical work and his interest in training new generations of doctors - he has been a professor at the University of Oviedo (UNIOVI) for five years.
The incorporation of these three professionals offers new diagnosis and treatment possibilities for cancer patients and deepens the multidisciplinary and super-specialty nature of MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten's oncology medical team, a feature that has always distinguished the center. And all this without forgetting the human factor, something fundamental in the treatment of cancer.
