Madrid, November 15, 2024.- MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid – Hospiten joins Meninas Madrid Gallery, a project conceived by the artist Antonio Azzato and the Madrid City Council that is bringing art to the most emblematic streets of the capital, reinterpreting the most iconic work of the great 17th-century Spanish painter Diego Velázquez, Las Meninas.
The MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten Menina sculpture will be on show in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid, specifically on Calle Serrano, number 52, from November 15 to December 15. Once the exhibition is over, the work will be moved to the gardens area at the entrance to the Cancer Center, where patients and their families will be able to enjoy it.
With this initiative MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten joins an exciting project that has involved the support of artists, designers, singers, journalists, famous athletes and other celebrities, together with sponsorship from major companies, and become an iconic feature and popular tourist attraction in the heart of Madrid.
“The main objective of this work is to raise awareness and reflect on the survival of cancer patients worldwide. The idea is that La Menina is not only a visually attractive piece of art, but also a catalyst for reflection and awareness,” says the Executive President of Hospiten and MD Anderson Madrid - Hospiten, Juan José Hernández Rubio. He highlights the way people will approach to admire the sculpture and then be encouraged to reflect on cancer and the importance of research and patient support. “The work seeks to connect with the general public through art and thus inspire hope and solidarity, showing how medical advances and global cooperation can improve survival rates and, ultimately, overcome cancer,” concludes the hospital network President.
AI-generated kaleidoscopic patterns from cancer patient survival charts
One side of the sculpture is decorated with kaleidoscopic patterns generated from survival graphs of cancer patients. These patterns merge with the other half through vertical lines in the corporate colours of the brand, as well as our logo and the motto “Let's end cancer”.
In a similar fashion, the corporate colours of the MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten brand are integrated into the design of the Menina, providing a direct connection to the identity of the organisation and its commitment to the fight against cancer. These colours harmonise with the patterns generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), creating a coherent and meaningful visual composition.
