The Anatomic Pathology and Molecular Diagnostics Service focuses all its work in diagnostics on tissue samples (blood or bone marrow, biopsies, surgically removed samples) and cytologies. These samples must be correctly processed, microscopically studied and almost always be submitted to complementary diagnostic tests (immunohistochemistry, cytogenetics, molecular biology, etc.).
The Service has the best in facilities, staff and specialized technological means and integrates the following sections:
- Surgical Pathology
- Cytopathology
- Immunohistochemistry
- Molecular Diagnostics
The Molecular Diagnostics laboratory is also responsible for carrying out genetic testing essential to studies on susceptibility to hereditary cancer, and is part of the Genetic Counseling Unit.
All procedures follow strict internal and external quality controls: UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008 and UNE-EN ISO 14001:2008 certifications. Furthermore, the lab participates in the Spanish Society for Anatomic Pathology (SEAP) quality control program and is also submitted to regular quality inspections by MD Anderson Houston.
The Anatomic Pathology and Molecular Diagnostics Service coordinates the activity of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid – Hospiten Biobank.
