MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid – Hospiten has been awarded the ‘Premio Puente’, an award given annually by the American Club of Madrid to individuals or organizations of excellence whose work and daily activity have strengthened ties and relations between Spain and the United States. Nuria Gonzalez, General Manager, and Dr. Santiago Gonzalez Moreno, Medical Director of MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten, accepted the award on behalf of the hospital at the 67th Anniversary Gala of the American Club of Madrid. “This award is the recognition of the work of all those who dedicate their time and energy to research and the integral treatment of cancer patients”, stated Dr. Gonzalez Moreno.
During his acceptance speech, he also stressed the importance or the word ‘puente’ in the name of the award. “We are particularly pleased at the name of this award, ‘Puente’ – ‘bridge’, because we believe that is exactly what we have built between the centers in Madrid and in Houston with the aim of ending cancer”. Dr. Gonzalez Moreno also pointed out that the relationship between the two countries is so close that even former president, George H.W. Bush attended the inauguration of the center in Madrid in the year 2000.
To end, the Dr. Gonzalez Moreno stated that prizes and awards like the ‘Premio Puente’ “reaffirm our belief that we are on the right track and are moving in the right direction”. So, the award is simply an incentive to carry on working and fighting every day, side by side with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, seeking a common goal – to end cancer.
