Madrid, 2 March 2020. With more than ten years' experience in treating patients with digestive tumours in the Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Dr José Ignacio Martín Valadés joins the MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid – Hospiten as the new head of the Digestive Tumours Section in the Medical Oncology Service. “I believe that the Digestive Tumours Multidisciplinary Unit has excellent professionals and I believe that I can contribute a lot to the team if we add my experience to the trajectory that they already have,” says the specialist, who has chosen to join this team because of “the centre's excellent track record, Houston's support and the multidisciplinary and highly patient-centred care it offers.”
Among his objectives as head of the Digestive Tumours Section, Dr Martín Valadés highlights above all two in the short term: to boost clinical research by attracting new clinical trials and to harness the potential of MD Anderson Madrid – Hospiten in basic research to achieve the best treatments and the best quality of life for cancer patients.
With more than 20 papers in scientific conferences and dozens of publications in scientific journals, Dr Martín Valadés has a long history of clinical research, particularly in phase 2 and 3 trials in the field of digestive tumours (mainly pancreatic, colon, oesophageal and gastric cancers).
In addition to his healthcare work as a medical oncologist, Dr Martín Valadés has developed his teaching activity as a resident tutor for the training of specialists in medical oncology and as a teaching collaborator of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, for the training of students of the Faculty of Medicine in this university.
