Clinical trials are part of a long, careful precess, which may take many years. First, physicians study a new treatment in the laboratory. Then, they often study the treatment in animals.

If a new treatment shows prmise, physicians the test the treatment in people. They do this in three to four steps, or phases. Your physician may offer you a clinical trial as a treatment option.

If you take part in a clinical trial, you may benefit from the best and newest treatments, you may undergo more tests than usual, so that the effects of a treatment can be monitored or any side effects detected.

Participating in aclinical trials is the best way to help develop new treatments that increase the chances of finding a cure for cancer and improve current treatments applied to other patients.
